So, it turns out China’s leadership is pretty split on AI! Xi Jinping himself seems to be leaning toward caution, considering AI’s potential risks just as serious as nuclear threats. But it’s causing a rift among China’s elite—some think they should speed up AI development to keep up with the West, while others fear that unchecked AI could get out of hand. China’s even discussing restricting advanced AI research, which would make it one of the first big nations to do so. It’s a tug-of-war between those who see AI as a chance to push forward and those warning about losing control over it.
