SMIC Faces Long Road Ahead with Chip Glut

Guess what? SMIC, China’s biggest chipmaker, just announced they're bracing for a rough stretch in the chip industry. They’re predicting an overcapacity in mature node chips until at least 2025! Overproduction and lower demand have hit hard, and right now, the industry’s running at only 70% capacity—way below the ideal 85%. Even though they had a 34% revenue boost last quarter, mostly thanks to China’s push for local chip production, SMIC’s leadership is hesitant to expand any further with this oversupply issue. Looks like they’ll be hitting the brakes on new projects for now.
