Affirmative Action for AI: Time to Fix the Biases
Hey, have you heard about how AI is still dealing with a major bias problem? It's kind of frustrating. AI systems are trained on historical data, which means they’re full of the same old gender, racial, and social biases. Basically, these algorithms are reinforcing outdated ways of thinking instead of helping us move forward.
Back in 2019, the A+ Alliance pushed for what they called "affirmative action for algorithms." They wanted AI to reflect modern values and human rights—what they called "feminist AI." It’s about using AI to promote fairness, rather than repeating the biases of the past. Sadly, while there’s more awareness of the issue today, the political will to actually do something about it is still lacking.
We need to push harder to make AI work for everyone, not just reflect the inequalities of the past.
