Russia's AI Bots Exposed in Disinformation Plot
Hey guys, you'll never believe this! The US just busted a crazy Russian disinformation scheme. Apparently, Russia used AI-powered bots to create fake social media profiles on X (formerly Twitter). This whole thing was masterminded by an editor at a Russian state media outlet, with funding from someone in the FSB, Russia's Federal Security Service.
From June to December, these bots were all over X, posting as Americans and pushing pro-Russian propaganda. One fake account, supposedly from Minneapolis, posted a video of Putin claiming parts of Poland, Ukraine, and Lithuania belonged to Russia post-WWII. Another account, pretending to be someone named Sue from Oregon, spread lies about the number of foreign fighters in Ukraine.
X managed to suspend these accounts for violating their terms of service, but it’s crazy how advanced these disinformation campaigns are getting. The mastermind behind this is still working at RT, a Russian state media agency, and has been leading their digital media department since 2023. This is just wild!
